Alex's profile

Alex makes meditative geometric paintings with a limited color palette that plays with shape and light to create complex worlds of abstraction. Completed over countless hours, and over many months, these are layered improvisational canvases painted in acrylic and using masking tape.

Queral also creates unique 3-D portraits of people by carving and painting phonebooks. 

Alex Queral was born in Havana, Cuba in 1958. His family migrated to Mexico and then to Miami, Florida as a boy. He received a B.F.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle, and an M.F.A. from the University of Pennsylvania. His works have been exhibited in Canada, England, Hong Kong, Mexico, and throughout the USA. Queral’s work is in the collections of Ripley's Believe It or Not!®, as well as Jerry Speyer and the Kohler family. Alex has lived in Medfield/Hampden area of Baltimore, Maryland for the past 9 years. Alex is available for phonebook portrait commissions.
