Ryan Severance is a painter currently living and working in Baltimore, Maryland. He is currently pursuing his MFA in the Leroy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at Maryland Institute College of Art, and is expected to graduate in May 2016. Previous education includes a BA in Painting from Framingham State University in Framingham, Massachusetts in 2013. Severance's work attempts to address an investment in art-making as an escape in correlation with a human tendency to help problem-solve for others before worrying about their own issues. Using shape and spacial play, the goal is to create a habitable zone to both move into and decode. In doing so, the work hopes to grant the viewer permission to leave their own baggage outside of the painting and escape into it.
