Mirlande's profile

Mirlande Jean-Gilles is a mother of two, a visual artist and writer. She has been creating collages for over twenty years. She creates her vibrant collages using papers from books and magazines. She is old school and likes to work with paper, scissors and glue. 
Mirlande’s vibrant collages have been exhibited at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, University of Baltimore, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Kenkeleba Gallery and Corridor Gallery in New York.
She was selected to be a “Bearden 100” in collaboration with The Romare Bearden Foundation. She was one of the women featured in the documentary “Imagine a Future”. She is the recipient of the Maryland State Council for the Arts-Individual Artist Award for works on paper. She was commissioned to create original art for the 20219/2020 season for Baltimore Center Stage.
Her artwork is inspired by her Haitian culture, motherhood and nature. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland with her family.
