Christopher's profile
Project-specific artworks move from drawing to interactive media and ultimately to public sculpture. I like tracing the beginnings of my work to watching and waiting at DC metro stations, mulling things over between short drags of long cigarettes. It has been more informed, though, a longer game carried into adulthood and absorbed through conversations among family and friends, many of whom are Baltimore artists. The practice is shaped by that influence and rooted in material honesty, experimentation, cross-generational collaboration, skill-sharing, and laughter that turns to tears.
UMBC’s MFA program formalized a digital arts research methodology that later crystalized through the formation of the strikeWare Collective. The media arts group leverages grants and educational workshops to produce interactive sculpture, XR media, and design-centered exhibitions, primarily throughout the DMV.
Internalizing language, stories, and inherited facts about the mysteries of the past informs my commitment to contemporary art and sustains a practice oriented toward nonconventional value systems.
