David's profile

David Lavine graduated from the University of Delaware with a BA in history. After service in the Navy, he used the G.I. Bill to study at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore. He received a Master of Fine Arts in photography in 1978. For many years, he was a freelance photographer, providing illustrations for magazine articles and commercial brochures. Subsequently he was a lecturer in photography at Anne Arundel Community College for 25 years. He has also taught at the Community College of Baltimore County, the Maryland Institute, and The University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). He has shown his work at the Peale Museum, St. Johns College, and UMBC. His work is held in the Special Collections of UMBC and the Maryland Center for History and Culture. He teaches courses in the relationship between photography and American culture; these include "Picturing the American Dream" and "Photography in Celebrity Culture."
