Sean's profile

Sean McFarland (b. 1991) is an American musician and composer based in Baltimore, Maryland. His work explores experimental guitar music, ambient composition, and collaborative practices rooted in Baltimore’s DIY music scene. He performs as a solo artist and as a member of Euclid C Finder!, and has been active as a composer and performer since the early 2010s.

McFarland’s solo practice centers on electric guitar, electronics, and extended compositional structures. His 2021 release 1006 and Resonance combines an interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Violin Partita No. 3 in E major with original experimental compositions, reflecting an interest in resonance, form, and reinterpretation. His work often engages with sustained sound, texture, and the physical properties of amplification.

As a collaborator, McFarland contributes guitar and mixing work to Euclid C Finder!, an experimental heavy music project whose 2023 album The Mirror My Weapon I Love You received positive coverage from publications including BrooklynVegan, New Noise Magazine, Heavy Blog Is Heavy, and Angry Metal Guy. His collaborative work emphasizes process, timbre, and collective composition.

McFarland plays an active role in Baltimore’s DIY music infrastructure. He helps organize and sustain programming at The Undercroft, a volunteer-run, sober, all-ages venue in the city’s Remington neighborhood that Baltimore Beat has described as a key space for independent music across genres and a substance-free environment for diverse audiences. He has also participates in programming and community events at 2640 Space, another longstanding Baltimore venue known for supporting experimental music, arts, and interdisciplinary performance.

McFarland studied composition at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, where he received the Philip Glass Endowed Scholarship in Composition and the Gustav Klemm Award in Composition. His work reflects an ongoing engagement with experimental music, community-based practice, and independent artistic production.
