Tae's profile
Tae Hwang is a Baltimore-based artist and educator whose work examines the relationship between representation and depiction, often incorporating humor, exaggeration, and elements of popular culture. Hwang earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA in Social Practice and Public Culture from the University of California, San Diego.
Exhibitions include the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Museo del Barrio (NYC), SOMA (Mexico City), Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, and others. Recent highlights include a two-person show at LaiSun Keane in Boston alongside works by the late Lawrence Weiner and a solo exhibition at BlackRock Center for the Arts.
Awards include the James Irvine Engagement Grant, Urbanism of Inclusion Fellowship, Bauhaus Strategic Partnership Grant, and Maryland State Arts Council Creativity and Individual Artist Grants. Currently teaches at Johns Hopkins University.
