Rikiesha's profile
Rikiesha Metzger is a multifaceted International Community Artist-Philosopher and recent PhD graduate of the Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts. Metzger is committed to exploring the intersections of race, identity, and spirituality through her creative practice. Her framework, Black Artistic Thought, focuses on creative processes rooted in the lived experiences of African Diasporic women artists and thinkers in the United States, highlighting how Black women express the spiritual as an art form.
With a dedication to social and cultural artivism, Metzger’s work includes installations, sculptures, performances, quilts, and papercuts, all illuminating how spiritual, familial, and historical connections exist within the human experience. Her curatorial and creative practice focuses on concepts such as sunrays, which explore themes of divine presence, light, and hope.
Her current engagements include projects that amplify Black voices across art, philosophy, and beyond. Metzger’s work has been featured in several publications as part of her ongoing mission to bring to light the diverse voices of marginalized communities. Her contributions have earned her fellowships in recognition of how she challenges and reimagines futures centered on the many ways diverse cultural experiences express the spiritual in different art forms.
