Hiromitsu's profile

Exploration is an essential part of the human experience. It starts with the innate survival instinct to become familiar with one’s environment. Some people take it a step further and continue to explore purely for the sake of adventure; taking the roads less traveled to the outskirts of reality, uncharted territory filled with excitement, beauty and mystery. Adventures are best shared and the pursuit of passions will lead to companionship, friendship and love. Hiromitsu Hubbard’s artwork draws inspiration from a patchwork of adventures, stories and images he has archived while engaging and bonding with a diverse assortment of Americans along his travels across the United States. In sharing these experiences with the viewer, similar bonds are formed over each image, through windows into beautiful, unfamiliar and often surreal scenes that capture the full spectrum of human emotion. From the urban underbelly, to remote mountain peaks, to imaginary dreamlike destinations, Hiromitsu’s work transports the viewer to places they may have never seen or will ever go. In the present day, it is easy to become stagnant, uninspired, isolated and even fearful of the outside world. The media portrays a closed-minded narrative focused on conflict, negativity and uncertainty, while careers, screen time and other distractions become an endless routine. Through his work, Hiromitsu offers a unique visual perspective, a reminder that through the good and the bad, there is still a diverse and open minded world out there, filled with friendship, beauty and mystery for those who choose to look for it.

Hiromitsu is a Japanese American painter and explorer whose fine art and murals combine a background in design and communications with energetic representational and surrealist painting. He currently lives in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, where he returned after travels across the United States, building his career over the past decade. He first left Baltimore to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL. After graduating, he worked as a graphic designer and fabricator before transitioning to a career as a fine artist and muralist, a setting that allows for fuller artistic expression. In his studio practice he creates paintings using acrylic paint applied with both brush and airbrush on canvas and custom handmade MDF panels. Outside of the studio he creates large scale murals using acrylic latex paint and spray paint. He has had two successful gallery exhibitions in Baltimore and has painted murals for a variety of arts festivals, public art programs and private clients in Baltimore and across the east coast.
