Rebecca 's profile
I love stories, myths, fairy tales. I’m especially drawn to the archetypal symbolism of traditional mythology across different cultures. I have no formal degree in art but have studied in various places including the Schuler School of Art in Baltimore. I work in mixed media with oil paint, fiber, oxidized copper, and found materials.
My latest series is a reimagining of the myths of the Greek goddesses with an eye toward their relevance to women’s lives today. This work is my response to the threats women are currently having to negotiate in our current political climate. The stories of the Greek goddesses are surprisingly pertinent, making me wonder if they could have been written by women. Certainly they were created by someone who observed how they had to adapt to a world controlled by men. We’re still doing it, finding our power despite the current attempts to rob us of our agency.
My work has been in many gallery shows throughout the DMV area and I have commissions across the United States. A brief sample of these is below:
Galerie Myrtis. American Flag exhibit. Baltimore, Maryland.
Circle Gallery. American Landscapes exhibit. Annapolis, Maryland.
Glenview Mansion Gallery. Rockville Art League exhibit (Winner of first place, third place and honorable mention awards). Rockville Maryland.
City Gallery. Opening exhibit. Baltimore, Maryland.
Delaplaine Art Center. Juried exhibit. Frederick, Maryland.
