BIO

Tim was born in Freeport Illinois in 1970. There he spent his youth racing BMX bikes & competing on skateboards. In 1992, he received his AS at Highland Community College, Freeport Illinois where he studied general fine arts and technical theater. In 1994, Tim received a BFA from Northern Illinois University, Dekalb, Illinois, where he was producing large-scale public sculptures. In 2000, Tim graduated from Syracuse University with an MFA in Sculpture, where he received the 2000 Master’s Prize through the College of Visual and Performing Arts. From 2000 -2008 Tim worked as the Sculpture Technician and taught a variety of classes and workshops, including metal fabrication, mold making, sculptural kinetics, and stone carving at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. Presently, his work is focused on kinetic sculptures and aerial apparatus that are powered by one or two performers. For the last four years he has partnered with Aerial actor, Mara Neimanis of In Flight Theater. In 2009 Scofield & Neimanis founded the Alley Aerial Arts Festival, Baltimore Maryland, which provides a venue for a variety of aerial artist in the region.
Tim Scofield creates sculptures that focus on the relationship of equipment, tools, and the body. He uses found objects, fabricated forms and a diverse range of materials to create his sculpture.
