Sharon's profile
I paint in watercolor and acrylic on paper and wood panels. I love watercolor because it combines luminosity with soft edges and unpredictable results. My acrylic paintings have many layers, textural effects and collage elements. I find the space between representational and purely abstract images most compelling. My subject matter varies based on what I find intriguing and challenging.
My most recent explorations have been in two series. The first series includes views of National Parks. The National Parks were established to protect special landscapes and provide access to those places. They are a legacy for us and a physical example of a connection between all of us and our nation. The National Parks are an example of how we can address our problems if we protect the things we value and work toward solutions that are inclusive. The next series 'Natural Impulse' depicts people in the landscape actively engaged with nature. Love and connection with natural areas is the key to the future as we will care for and protect the things we love.
I am a signature artist with the Baltimore Watercolor Society, a member of both the Maryland Federation of Art and the Howard County Arts Council and exhibit work regularly with those organizations. I have had paintings accepted into ART Howard County, Maryland Federation of Art, Laurel Art Guild, and other juried exhibits and have won several awards. At the Columbia Art Center, I teach watercolor painting and workshops and exhibit my work.
