Yefu's profile
Liu Yefu is a Beijing born video artist and ink painter. By creating dramatic scenes, combined with hand-made props in line with fictional plot, Liu's work mapping the ideology and stereotypes brought by history, nationality, and memory. He uses dark humor to expresses his disappointment, anger, helplessness towards reality, and his joy as a bystander.
Liu’s works have been exhibited and screened at global institutions such as: BIENALSUR, Gabrovo Biennial for Humor & Satire in Art, Tai Kwun Contemporary, New/Next Film Festival, Gene Siskel Film Center, OCAT Research Center, He Xiangning Museum, Le Carreau du Temple, Ullens Center of Contemporary Art, YUZ Museum, Vox Populi among others. Liu is currently a resident artist at Lower Manhattan Culture Council and he is also the nomination of Han Nefkens Video production grants (2022), Balois Art Prize (2021), Huayu Youth Award (2016). Liu's work included in "Do it, China 2021" edited by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Cao Dan.
