Eligibility and Selection Process

  • Creating and populating a portfolio with content and files is how artists submit their work for the Baker Artist Awards.

  • Artists must be 21 years of age or older to create a portfolio, as of 1 year prior to the start of each season.

  • Artists must have been a legal resident of the Baltimore region for a minimum of one year prior to the opening of the current open portfolio season. The Baltimore region is defined as: Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Harford County and Howard County.

  • After the season opens, artists who meet the eligibility requirements may log on to http://www.bakerartist.org and follow the directions to create a portfolio and upload files.

  • All work presented by an artist must be created by the artist.

  • Artists with existing portfolios should login to their portfolios between the opening of the season and the stated deadline for reactivation.

  • Artists can alter their portfolios at any time; however, for award consideration, artists have until the submission deadline to create or update their portfolio. At that time, the website will automatically create a cloned copy of each artist’s portfolio to be used for adjudication.

  • Your portfolio on the Baker Artist Portfolios website serves as your submission for the Baker Artist Awards.

  • All artists with an active portfolio at the time of the submission deadline will have their work reviewed by that year's anonymous jury.

  • Selection of the Mary Sawyers Baker and Mary Sawyers Imboden  awardeeswinners will be decided through a juried process that will remain private before and after the awards are announced.

  • Artists selected to receive the Mary Sawyers Baker and Mary Sawyers Imboden prizes will be required to submit proof that they meet all eligibility requirements, including but not limited to proof of residency and age, and will be disqualified for failure to meet the stated eligibility requirements.

  • Recipients of the Mary Sawyers Baker and Mary Sawyers Imboden awards are personally responsible for the full payment of taxes on any cash award they receive.
