Leo Brouwer (b. 1939) was born in Havana, Cuba and began his musical studies on the guitar at the age of thirteen. Brouwer was essentially self-taught as a composer, with his first experiences in composition presenting themselves at the age of fifteen. Brouwerâ??s only experience with formal musical training occurred at the Hartt School of Music and the Juilliard School from 1959 to 1960, where his teachers included Vincent Persichetti and Isador Freed. His Sonata for guitar was commissioned in 1990 by Julian Bream, and premiered the following year.
This is the product of the most recent recording session of the group. Our goal for this particular project is to provide listeners and potential clients with a wide range of musical examples, showcasing the group's versatility and expression. These highly contrasting musical selections, ranging from Baroque to Tango, demonstrate C Street Brass's ability to perform with a high level of virtuosity both collectively and individually. These recordings will also be used as examples for assorted music festivals and competitions.

Laguna el Encanto is a fun, experimental work with Jamahl Rahmaan, Griff Beheler, and Deep Vision dancers, celebrating the 5 year anniversary of Martinell's Deep Vision Dance Company at Baltimore Theatre Project in 2015.

Laguna el Encanto (Charm Lagoon) collides quirky modern dance with flashy flamenco movements, resulting in a peculiar bird ballad. Flamenco artist, Jamahl Rahmaan displays his delicious footwork as bird-like women swoon to be his mate. The rhythmic landscape is composed and performed live by regional artist, Griff Beheler.
Highlighting the dynamic music of Jel, this quirky, playful, and somewhat peculiar contemporary modern duet questions the validity of relationships emerging from intrigue and fixation. The whimsical characters fuss over of their fascination, tease and manipulate each other, and attempt to unglue the meaningless attraction. Colorful, metallic costumes, video projections of the movement from an aerial perspective, and psychoactive video effects magnify the imaginative nature of the piece.

Video projections composed by David Merino and Ronald Santana.

A five-piece band playing Latin and Caribbean dance music including original compositions by Robert Friedman. Over the years, the band has recorded two CDs, "Mr. Happy," and "Live." Every year (for over 20 years) thousands of people attend Mambo Combo performances at concerts, parties, and fundraisers throughout the region.

This mural was begun and completed from early June to early August 2010 by muralists Tom Chalkley and Ken Clemons, who were soon joined by a third muralist, Greg Gannon. 33 community volunteers from the Waverly and Greater Baltimore communities also participated in painting the mural throughout that 60-day period.
The daxophone, pictured, has unlimited potential for making new (singing, grunting, hooting, drumming, scatching) noises.  It's played by clamping a piece of thin wood, bowing it, and placing another heavy piece of wood on it to change the vibrating length. Each carefully chosen and shaped pieces of wood are called tongues. They are both a sonic and visual art. Each is unique in wood grain, shape, and sound.
