Images of people convey the complicated life of thoughts that are individual but bring us together as people who strive to understand others of different backgrounds and experiences. We can never truly understand the experiences and feelings of others, but through my art I look to get the viewer to understand what another might think or believe. We all have the desire to be purposeful, fulfilled and happy in our individual lives but we should look to enrich our lives by listening to others and striving to understand other perspectives.

Recently I had been working from the gesture life model with short, active poses as the basis of figuration.  But isolation during Covid months has changed the availability of everything.  Having no models and being "safe" in work space corners at home, I focused  on smaller scale paintings of faces. The watercolor "2020" captured the uncertainty of a life model's expression in a short pose. I am interested in the faces of people who are finally speaking out, thinking, sleeping, laughing, the expressions that may connect to our own feelings.

The Sixth Reign series is an exploration of personality and connections among a group of friends that have grown to become a family.  The color choices connect each piece like the video game that has brought the group together.
Many of my paintings evolve from works on paper, painted sketches. In 2015 I recycled a lot of my paper-based pieces into this series of collages that I call "re-masks". Each consists entirely of an older, cut up, acrylic and ink painting on paper. Some of them include found images. These two dimensional masks have been installed unframed and as a group on a large wall, but here are shown individually.

I am not only a performer, I am a creator. As a puppeteer, I often write, design, and build all the aspects of my performances. As much as I can, I try to strengthen the artist in me who draws, sculpts, designs, carves, and dreams with her hands. Exploring my creativity this way informs the kind of work I perform and how creative I can be. Most artists do not fit simply in a box, they have a need to create, to explore, and to share stories.

Although I am a sculptor I still enjoy 2-dimensional design. In fact most of my sculptures start out in 2-D form. If it weren't for the various mediums I'd have nowhere to begin. I enjoy pushing the boundaries of each medium to see what I can achieve.
