Some works of grates and grills, exploring pattern in relief by taking rubbings and further working them in the studio. I find pattern meets function in the abstraction. Some of the patterns are very old, such as the Victorian heating grates. The telephone access lids are from the earlier part of the 20th century. If you look around, they are every where in the Baltimore environment.
For more than twenty years, I've been creating art that seeks to bring healing and change by examining what it means to be human.   My original poetry accompanied with paintings and innovative printmaking techniques have allowed me to explore human emotions of our time, and to capture human imperfections and strengths.

Raising water has been an ongoing interest of mine. It’s the ultimate in cause and effect. Creating a sculpture that is a wind-powered fountain is a concept that has been under development for a long period of time. WW Ladew 2020 is the latest example.

There were many other projects that led up to the Ladew wind-powered fountain: Wind Wirtz at Park School, Wind Wirtz #2 at Goya Contemporary, Chase Pier model at Gedankenexperiment, and Wind-Wirtz Ladew at Ladew Topiary Gardens.

Regardless of taste or budget, the decorative impulse, the desire to enhance your physical appearance and that of your home, is universal. It connects us intimately to our distant ancestors. However, the contemporary practice of sampling has enabled an entire generation of artists to borrow freely across cultures and time periods, creating unique hybrids in a range from harmonious to jarring.
This kinetic sculpture was an investigation to test two kinds of movement: one is the disks spinning in opposite directions on the same axle, the other is the column spinning both above and below the horizontal support arm.
