Destruction,Displacement,Despair 2023/2024
This work is entirely covered with stitch and is densely layered to add form and dimension. It is showing the history of a place and what the War which has taken place for decades but only revealed to the World recently. The rubble, torn down buildings and the hunger of the people is depicted in the work. As an artist and person it is important to bring these matters to the forefront.

Around the world brides as young as 10 years of age are forced to marry often men much older. In some cultures these are arranged marriages. The images of the young girls are from India and Kenya. The background is knitted copper wires, embroidery hand and the manual sewing machine, digital print etc. Very few members of the public are aware of these practices and having spent my own childhood in these 2 countries as a child I experienced these practices amongst my neighbours.

The Innocent 2023-2024
The School killings in the USA has affected many as a result of the gun violence in this country. The images of the children and staff in both Newtown, CT and Ulvade, TX is embroidered with stitch. The form is circular as a symbol of the Universe, meditation and prayer transforming the universe from one of suffering into joy and happiness. It is important to bring these matters to the forefront as it is a normality in this country -the many everyday gun violence in our streets and neighbourhoods.

Cape Town Installation View 5
The large Installation of Cape Town and parts of S.Africa consists of 6 Sections or views each depicting certain aspects of Cape Town and its surroundings. The work is comprised of 92 panels and only one part of the work is shown here mainly that of the slave history of S.Africa. The images are photographed and richly layered with stitch. Each section is separated with a strip showing the various parts of the city.

Social Justice/History
The work in this Project addresses Social Justice, in particular, the many killings as a result of Gun Violence and Police brutality in the USA. It also relates to the history of this country. The images are digitally photographed and manipulated with stitch on handmade felt, textiles, etc. In Memoriam Curtain had an immediate response by some viewers who have written poem, texts in relation to this large Installation. The Innocent 2012-2022 relates to the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and Robb Elementary School in Uvalde,Texas. These works are circular in context (Spiritual Journey) The work is richly layered with stitch using the sewing machine and computer. Wood (Gun) is incorporated in the work -wood using the laser cutter and stitch (Text)
The removal of the Confederate monuments around the USA has resulted in demonstrations around the country. The boxed Confederate was a monument in the grounds of the Montgomery County Offices in Rockville, MD. The statue has since been removed to Harper's Ferry,MD.
Included in this Project are the recent events in Gaza and included is an image of the destruction of the Place. This work is richly layered with stitch entirely and has form and dimension.
Migration has been an important issue around the world and one of the works Tunnel Crossing relates to the plight of people that cross the English Channel to get to Britain amidst treacherous conditions.

In Memoriam Curtain 2020-2023
This large work is created on handmade felt and took a year to complete. The images of the victims are richly layered with stitch created digitally and on the manual sewing machine. The history of the country including the death of Emmet Till is shown and several other victims during the 1960s.

The killing of George Floyd in 2020 created several demonstrations around the World. The work is created on handmade felt and richly layered with stitch. The stitched text shows the many countries in the world where the demonstrations were held.

The various demonstrations in the USA showed the removal of many monuments and this one in particular
was found at the Montgomery Council Offices, in Rockville, Maryland. The monument was finally removed
from the site to Harper's Ferry, MD.

Tunnel Crossing
Migration has been a hot topic over several countries including the USA. As a migrant from Kenya this subject is close
to my heart. This work relates to the migration in the United Kingdom where many cross the English Channel in order to get to the
United Kingdom under dangerous conditions and perilous journeys.
The work is mixed media using textiles, stitch and wood.

The Place(s) in this Project relates to cities where the artist has lived and been influenced by the cultural diversity of the area.
The works are photographed, printed and manipulated with stitch using textiles as the background. The two cities where the artist lived and lives at present (Baltimore) are quite contrasting in both the physical and spiritual sense. The diversity in the community (London) small spaces and the weather strikes a contrast to the large space in Baltimore and also that it is not as International as London. The works are textile based using stitch, photography and collage. Some of the old traditional ceremonies re: Pearly Kings and Queens of London and the diverse neighbourhoods is shown in this Project. The work is also educational to some degree and important in that the public who view the work can look up the various aspects of the cities in question.

The Installation is textile based using photography and richly layered with stitch using hand and the manual sewing machine. The images show the rich cultural diversity of E. London where the artist lived for several years. Images show a mosque, hindu temple, Sikh marriage the shops etc. Each panel describes various aspects of the city. Included too is the Pearly King and Queen of London.

E.London (detail)
The image shows the Pearly Queen with a Sikh participant. This is now a multi cultural ceremony than what was practiced in the early 1800s. The costumes are richly decked with beads, buttons and sequins. The Pearlies as they are called raise money for Charity and is a landmark of London. The work measures 6"Hx4"Wx0.1"D.

The Screen shows the front view of some parts of the city of Baltimore. The poor and more affluent neighbourhoods. The surface is created with handmade felt incorporating images that are printed and further manipulated with stitch. This is also a collaborative work in which the text is created by a poet. African American History Rockville MD
A residency in Rockville, Md, (2017-2018) was the result of a Solo Exhibition in which several works were created addressing the History of the African American Community who lived there in the 1800s. Some of the works were collaborative (Poet) and were created as Book Covers one of which is shown in this series /Project.
The images also relate to the young girl Ann Maria Weems who at the age of 15 years who under disguise escaped to Canada and

The Shroud (Front View) 2018
The work is composed of copper wire mesh folded, pleated to add form and dimension. The structure is the form of a covering in this respects alluding to the young slave girl who escaped to Canada from her captors in the mid 1800s. Size 3ftHx28"Wx6"D

The Back View of this image shows the folds, pleats and structure of the work. Size 3ftHx28"Wx6"D. Several works relating to the History of the African American Community who lived in Rockville at the time (1800s) were created by the artist. The Sentinel newspaper published in Rockville at the time showed many Ads (Rewards and Jobs) etc.

The Shroud detail
The detail of the work shows the copper wire mesh which is pleated, folded and manipulated with thread to add dimension and form to the work. This work alludes to the attire or a covering that is imaginary to escape the slave captors at the time. A contemporary version to that of what may have been worn.
