About Ellen

Ellen Burchenal is an artist who makes drawings, paintings, and occasionally small sculptures. A former MICA instructor, she was also visiting faculty for the MICA @SACI Honors Studio program in Florence, Italy, and director of the MICA Italy Summer program for 20 years. The recipient of a NEA residency grant, an AIA Honors Award, and six Maryland State Arts Council Artist Fellowships, Burchenal has exhibited and lectured in galleries and universities throughout the region and in… more

Festina Lente (Make Haste Slowly)

These are digital inkjet prints. Using the small drawings (central image) I experimented with enlarging them - to make the small mark more monumental. The color and background reinforce the everyday of Sorrento, Sant'Agnello and Naples.
