Christopher Myers (b.1972) A life-long Baltimorean, Chris received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art. Since, he has concentrated on fine art, documentary and commercial photography- receiving several Maryland State Arts Council Grants. His work has been exhibited extensively on the east coast and is in the collection of Reykjavik Museum of Photography, Iceland. He has contributed to several documentary publications as well as fine art publications.

    I wanted to explore the difference and connection between digital photography and traditional photography. The nude is shot via traditional means the scanned into a compter to show its digital sub structure. That code is then photographed and shown as its own new vision.

    • Site-Seeing

    This work was created with a seldom used format, the half frame camera. It makes exposures half the size of an ordinary 35mm camera. This allows for the easy production of diptychs. I altered the film developer for this series which makes the images very grainy and deep in tone. This series is about gather-ing pieces of the city and reassembling them into new hybrids. The resulting images are personal in meaning but I also believe they have an open ended quality which allows the viewer to investigate.

    While walking the streets in the 1990's and early 2000's there was always the chance of coming across found personal pictures. Small little vignettes into contemporary life. There was a sense of story and place. Always an amazing surprise. Now with all things digital and virtual it has vanished. So I decided to make a series recently of images where I took the picture back to where they were found and shoot the environment and the physical picture.

    This photo series was a document of a man seemingly at the end of his rope. Alone and shunned by what was once his family. In his isolated house he tried to be productive and find meaning. Life was getting the best of him, but he wasn't going down without a fight. It felt like a cautionary tale of a life wasted but also of the hope of an individual struggling for purpose
