Earth in Balance

"Earth in Balance" is a portrait of "Earth" in the heavens, with the other planets in our Solar System, all surrounded by stars. It was done for exhibition at "The Artist as Messenger" at the Howard County Conservancy. It is made from hand painted photographic prints, prints of my own paintings, and found objects. A variety of Faux finishing techniques were used. The sculpture received an Honorable Mention.

  • Description of Earth in Balance
Earth in Balance offers a positive view of the future, one in which the Earth is held in place by the sun, grasps it’s own moon, and hurtles along with the other planets through space and time, indifferent to the existence of Man.

Self Portrait #7

I wanted to use as many techniques as possible could to produce this image showcasing my many disciplines. It is made from salvaged materials, found objects, egg tempera, casein and archival prints. The background is painted in a 1960's style. The portrait was manipulated using Photoshop. printed on rag mat boards, and cut into the many shapes. Spacers were used to create depth. The Sunflower is printed from one of my own paintings. The floating rectangles are refrigerator magnets made from my own paintings.

Winter into Spring Exhibit

The project was to create an exhibition from a single idea, to paint the property of the Howard County Conservancy as it passed from Winter into Spring, visualized in a series of 24 paintings. The scenes were scouted and reference photographs were taken. 24 pencil drawings were completed, then 24 watercolors, and finally the 24 large acrylic paintings were completed. All 24 paintings hung together completed a single image 60 feet in length. The show was held at the Gudelsky Gallery at the Howard County Conservancy from April to May of 2014.
