Wiley Purkey is a native of Historic Ellicott City, Md., and has a long history of working in the arts. He paints scenes in, and around the historic towns of Ellicott City and Sykesville, Md., having begun in 1966, at age 13.
Wiley has has been featured in over ten solo shows of his work, the first one being in 1974 at age 21. He also has participated in numerous street art festivals and group shows at galleries over several decades.
He worked in the art gallery and picture framing business for 35 years accumulating in immense knowledge of art history and techniques.
He is adept at watercolor, acrylic, oil paint, egg tempera, chalk pastels, oil pastels and most kinds of drawing materials, and has recently turned some attention to making constructions out of re-purposed materials.
