About Terry Coker
I have studied and worked with art all my life. Starting with private lessons as child, onto Maryland
Institute College of Art in Baltimore where I graduated magna cum laude, and then into the art work world.
I’ve worked as a silk-screener of t-shirts and posters, illustrator for a medical school and private
hospital, art teacher and art camp director, and designer of print publications and outdoor exhibits.

Polar Vortex Drawings
During last winter's extreme cold, I worked on a series of small drawings while sitting in front of the fire. All, except the Bodhisattva drawing, measure 5x7 inches and are done on mylar. I begin my choosing one of my photos, manipulating and sizing and cropping the image to create the right visual impact. The manipulated image is then used as the basis for the drawing.

West meets East: Impressions of Asia
Terry uses the ancient technique of digital collage in the contemporary world of electronic media; combining and manipulating original photographs into dramatic and unique images. Chance associations of disparate visual elements and the subsequent images suggest a new and richer reality.
Her current show, West meets East, is created from images shot over the past eight years during many trips to China and Southeast Asia. The richly detailed and textured images show the contrast of chaos and harmony represented in these great Asian civilizations.

Super Flowers
For this series I wanted a fresh approach to painting the hackneyed flower. I oversized the flowers and intentionally cropped them to break out of the picture plane.
Using vivid colors and layers of glazing I treated them more as sculptural and abstract elements, taking them to a realm beyond pretty yet mundane flowers.
