    Description: Mixed media on wood panel. This piece is 30 pounds of fluid art, deep resin work, and cellophane sculpture.

    Comments: The piece is symbolic of a ying yang. It is representative of light and dark energies - the natural balance in a universe. The meaning of yin and yang is that the universe is governed by a cosmic duality, sets of two opposing and complementing principles or cosmic energies that can be observed in nature.

  • Shangri-La
    Shangri-La

    Description: Mixed media on wood panel. The first layer is an acrylic pour where chemicals were added to create reactions when wet. Detailed linework was drawn using paint pens and acrylic paint. Resin was added to varnish. Shangri-La was inspired by the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton. Hilton describes Shangri-La as a mystical harmonious valley enclosed in the mountains - an enduringly happy land, isolated from the world.

    Description: Mixed Media on Canvas. This piece was inspired by Sedona - Sedona, Arizona is known for its vortexes, which are believed to be swirling centers of energy that can promote healing, meditation, and self-exploration.

    About Tara

    Tara Gillespie (b.1983, Baltimore, MD) is an abstract artist with a passion for contemporary art. In 2018 she started mixing her own acrylic paints and experimenting with resin, amongst other materials, and her practice has evolved since. Her studio is based in Timonium, MD, and she exhibits her work in the DMV fine art festival show circuit.
