About mary kunaniec
A series of photographic portraits informed by the work of the painter Francis Bacon and the poet Gloria Anzaldua.
Photographic investigation of the concept of home as an imagined place of beginning and returning.
Archetypal elements of American architecture are used to emphasize the sought after sense of stability and safety that homes are thought to provide. These homes are not presented in a straightforward way, but through a lens of memory and longing.
Sequential photographs exploring night as a metaphor for transition.
This work continues an investigation of the variations of memory. The images depict scenes of embedded recollection and emotion, questioning the truthfulness therein. Text and image merge to tell stories, real or imagined, in a powerful whisper. The work is influenced by the filmmakers Alain Resnais and F.W. Murnau.
