Only in America

I am Mari Andrea Travis, Artistic Director of Good Stuff On Stage (GSOS). GSOS is feel-good, interdisciplinary performance art aimed to promote integrative artisanal theatre-making experiences and provide technically thoughtful productions. Our first production, Only in America: Culture, Injustice, Revolution & Legacy, is performance art storytelling through dance, spoken word and live music by local Baltimore-area artists, including both youth and professionals. In addition, this project served as the reunion concert of Charm City Dance Theatre, which I established in 2011.

"America, America, you shed your grace on thee and crown thy good with a white hood."

Colorblind: The Katrina Monologues

I'm directing Colorblind: The Katrina Monologues. It's a play of 9 monologues giving voice to the varied populations affected by the hurricane. This production will take place at Arena Players, 2/17-2/26.

"This is the only place I know where termites consume entire neighborhoods while politicians have their backs turned."

Spell #7

I directed Spell #7, a choreopoem by Ntozake Shange. In the spirit of the 1970's, Spell #7 is a politically driven play about 9 performing artists hanging out and discussing their woes as Black actors trying to make it big in show biz.

"people keep tellin me these are hard times / what are you gonna be doin ten years from now / what in the hell do you think / i am gonna be writin poems ..."
