These stills are a sample of   a video piece begun as an Artist-in-Residence while at the Sacatar Institue in Bahia, Brazil.

The video is a form of creation myth based on an invented a character that is a distillation of Western, Indigenous and Afro-Brazilian spiritual traditions.

The costume for the character was created out of the detritus, gathered over several weeks, on the local beach.  In this costume, the by-product of discarded consumer waste, there are whole and parts  of clothing, utensils, plastics,  and shoes.

The character greedily stalks the America of Brazil; its soul purpose; to foul the environment. While it is  generally feared, it faces little resistance.  It's only threat is the Spirit of the Capoeira, a team born of the martial arts tradition created as a means of avoiding the Master's whip during slavery.

Upon completion, the 15-minute video piece will feature Afro-Brazilian music and be narrated both in English (with Portuguese subtitles) and Portuguese (with English subtitles).
