Baltimore Fireworks
Shot from the grounds of the Baltimore Museum of Industry. I had to carefully position myself to have the fireworks directly behind the tugboat. The picture reveals the industrial, nautical, and festive spirit of Baltimore's Inner Harbor.

Baltimore Skyline
Shot from Clinton Street in East Baltimore. I used a 600 mm lens to compress the groupings of buildings for a feeling of a cohesive whole. My intent is to conveys a sense of community and Baltimore as a vibrant and fun place to live.

The Human Invasion
This is shot in the Hampstead area of Carroll County. The perspective was chosen to convey a sense of "visitation" from the stars while welcoming the viewer to enter the scene.

Deserted Boardwalk - Ocean City, Maryland
On a cold, wet, winter night I took this photograph of the boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland. The vanishing point pulls the eye to the distant end and accentuates the sense of desertion. This is in stark contrast to the dense crowds that would be there in the summer months.

Phoenix Rising
This artistic rendering evokes a sense of the nascent Phoenix rising out of the ashes to reign in life once again. This has won several awards and is part of several private collections. It starts as a flower but transforms into a majestic bird taking flight.

Fish Under Gunpowder River Falls
Shot with a Nikon AW-1, this photograph was a lucky capture while hanging out in the Gunpowder River in Baltimore County, Maryland. I decided upon an artistic rendering to enhance the varied environment the fish inhabits.

Rope on a Spindle
While photographing a farm slated for demolition in Harford County, Maryland, I stumbled upon this scene that conveyed a strong sense of neglect and desolation. I often use "painterly effects" for what I call "embellishing the quintessential".

The Vane Frog
While photographing a small pond, this little fella popped up to check me out. (S)he then struck this pose for me as if to say, "look how pretty I am". I was very fortunate to get this shot with a 400 mm lens, being far enough away to not cause her to jump away. I was honored that this photo was included in the 2024 Chesapeake Bay Foundation calendar and has been purchased for several private collections.

Iconic Woman
Shot with a Mumford Time Machine and Canon Speedlights in a dark room. Precise timing had to configured to freeze the action at about 1/10,00th of a second. This was one of the most technically challenging photographs I have ever taken.

FarmScapes
A collection of "Farmscapes" in Maryland. Many of these scenes have met the bulldozer and no longer exist. The rural charm of Maryland is rapidly diminishing as the (aging) stewards of these lands can no longer manage the costs and younger generations have less interest in the hard work a farm requires.

Gablehammer Farm
I often wonder why I can be so enamored by a farm scene. I drove past this scene hundreds of times knowing that it was going to be one of favorite pictures. I used a slight painterly effect to elevate the story of solemnity and pastoral peacefulness. This conveys to me a sense of the "good life" with quiet and solitude.

Beggs Road Barn and Silo
It took me many return trips to this location to find the angle and light that conveys the transient sense of "wabi-sabi" in this barn and silo. There is sense of glory in the strength and stamina as this barn defies its' age.

Finksburg Farm
I often just drive through the countryside to chill out and look for potential pictures. I take photos with my cell phone so I have the GPS coordinates and come back often to research the light and various angles. I sometimes just have to sit and stare at a scene to feel the enchanting pull on my heart. I call this my "meditative" approach. It took me hours to find this perspective. I used a strong painterly effect here to "embellish the quintessential" of the scene.

Jenkins Farm - Worthington Valley
I was attracted to the graphic nature of this scene. I decided on a black/white rendition as color did not add anything to the picture. I later decided to incorporate a "painterly" treatment to accentuate the pastoral nature of the scene.

Worthington Hay Bales
This was a very lucky capture in Worthington Valley. I duck taped a stepladder to the top of my SUV to get the perspective needed to accentuate the lines of the hay bales. I came back the next day to try a different angle and they bales had already been collected. Moral of the story: be prepared and get your shot as soon as possible. Do not hesitate or the scene may be gone.

Hydes Farm
This idyllic scene is near where I grew up in Hydes, Maryland. The picture conveys the minimalistic grandeur of a simpler way of life. This simple farmhouse has been replaced by a large mansion with outbuildings and a large pool. Like many properties in Hydes, Glenarm, and Baldwin, it seems like wealth has taken over where the rural tradition can no longer hold on.
