    The painting was worked on over a period of 20 years. It was sold atn the opening reception.

    The painting is a mix of oil/wax on canvas. It evolved through a process of layering, scraping, transferring over a period of several months. The painting was first shown in November 2024 & again in March 2026 one-person shows at Gallery 1448. The painting was sold during the March 2026 show.

Artist member of Artists' Housing Inc. East Baltimore artist co-op.(over 20 years) Studied painting at The Brooklyn Museum Art School with Kendall Shaw. Studied painting with Dan Dudrow at MICA. Studied with Enrique Montenegro (painting) & Ron Cubbison (Teaching Assistant in Lithography) Towson. 

Max Beckmann Memorial Scholarship for painting (Brooklyn Museum Art School).

High School Art Teacher for AACPS for 20 plus years.

Germershausen 11/2-11/23 2024 Gallery 1448 -part 1

Paintings exhibited November 2024 at Gallery 1448 

The majority of these paintings were created in 2023 & 2024, however some of the canvases were reworked from a previous existence. All work was done with acrylic, oil, cold wax applied with painting knives. Areas of the paintings were taped to create linear & geometric shapes. 

Inspiration came from thinking about artists I have admired & by being aware of the environment I experience daily -from urban buildings, shadows, structures. Things seen but not always noticed.

    • "Interruptions" -a show of new work by Joseph Germershausen (March 2026 -Gallery 1448)

    Most of these paintings were created in the year 2025/26 & shown at Gallery 1488 in East Baltimore.

    The work evolved out of a process involving thin layering of oil paint erasing, charcoal marks building up some areas using cold wax. The paintings were worked on in a group -going back & forth between paintings. They are intentionally left a bit unresolved for the viewer to react & and reflect on the images. The show was well received as almost all of the work was sold at the opening.
