    In some parts of the world girls as young as 10 are forced to marry often older men. These images are of young brides re: India and E.Africa. The work is richly layered with stitch using copper wire on mesh, collage, print and stitched text.

    Place and History is an important part of my life and work. This image relates to the daily walks around my neighbourhood. The many trails that I discovered since moving here 10 years ago. The contrasts in seasons is striking. The work is woven with wires and incorporated with print, hand stitch to add dimension to the work.

    This work is entirely covered with stitch and is densely layered to add form and dimension. It is showing the history of a place and what the War which has taken place for decades but only revealed to the World recently. The rubble, torn down buildings and the hunger of the people is depicted in the work.  As an artist and person it is important to bring these matters to the forefront.

    The Innocent 2023-2024

    The School killings in the USA has affected many as a result of the gun violence in this country. The images of the children and staff in both Newtown, CT and Ulvade, TX is embroidered with stitch. The form is circular as a symbol of the Universe, meditation and prayer transforming the universe from one of suffering into joy and happiness.  It is important to bring these matters to the forefront as it is a normality in this country -the many everyday gun violence in our streets and neighbourhoods.

Social Justice/History

The work in this Project addresses Social Justice, in particular, the many killings as a result of Gun Violence and Police brutality in the USA. It also relates to the history of this country. The images are digitally photographed and manipulated with stitch on handmade felt, textiles, etc. In Memoriam Curtain had an immediate response by some viewers who have written poem, texts in relation to this large Installation.  Dimensions: 12ftHx10ftWxo.5"D  2020-2023.

The Innocent 2012-2022 relates to the victims killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut and Robb Elementary School in Uvalde,Texas. These works are circular in context (Spiritual Journey)  The work is richly layered with stitch using the sewing machine and computer. Wood (Gun) is incorporated in the work -wood using the laser cutter and stitch (Text)

The removal of the Confederate monuments around the USA has resulted in demonstrations around the country. The boxed Confederate was a monument in the grounds of the Montgomery County Offices in Rockville, MD. The statue has since been removed to Harper's Ferry,MD. 

Included in this Project are the recent events in Gaza and included is an image of the destruction of the Place. This work is richly layered with stitch entirely and has form and dimension. 

 

The practice of Child Brides is included in this section. The forced marriages of young children is found in many parts of the world and it is important to bring this issues to the Public's awareness.

    This large work is created on handmade felt and took a year to complete. The images of the victims are richly layered with stitch created digitally and on the manual sewing machine. The history of the country including the death of Emmet Till is shown and several other victims during the 1960s.

    The killing of George Floyd in 2020 created several demonstrations around the World. The work is created on handmade felt and richly layered with stitch. The stitched text  shows the many countries in the world where the demonstrations were held.

    A detail of the 14 year old Emmett Till who was abducted and lynched in Mississippi in 1955 after being accused of offending a white woman.

    The work is richly layered with stitch and printed on cloth/handmade felt surface.
