About Ellen

Ellen Burchenal is an artist who makes drawings, paintings, and occasionally small sculptures. A former MICA instructor, she was also visiting faculty for the MICA @SACI Honors Studio program in Florence, Italy, and director of the MICA Italy Summer program for 20 years. The recipient of a NEA residency grant, an AIA Honors Award, and six Maryland State Arts Council Artist Fellowships, Burchenal has exhibited and lectured in galleries and universities throughout the region and in Italy. … more

Festina Lente (Make Haste Slowly)

These are digital inkjet prints. Using the small drawings (central image) I experimented with enlarging them - to make the small mark more monumental. The color and background reinforce the everyday of Sorrento, Sant'Agnello and Naples.
