Self Portrait Series
In 2019, I began a self portrait series that sought to explore the attributes of my identity, and inner and external self. Using attributes of my appearance as a character or doppleganger, the shell of the body gave me the opportunity to think about the mythology of self, and the ways that we are both actualized and alienated by our external selves. This project has been a way to figuratively and literally rebuild myself after my mothers diagnosis with cancer in 2018, and has been a method of exploring grief after her passing in 2020. These figures are both a ceramic object as well as a method of performance, to allow the vulnerability of being seen in moments or emotions that are often hidden for the comfort of others.

Portrait Series
Before the shift to the self portrait series in 2019, I worked mostly using life models or friends as the subjects of my figurative work. These pieces range from busts to truncated bodies, to full bodies.
