I have experienced a lot of intense trauma in my life and believed that strength to be my identity for a long time. When I initially started to get back into painting in 2020 after a 3 year hiatus, my intention was to heal that trauma once and for all. But, as I faced those dark parts and… more
Exploring the Narrative Quality of Color
Through color theory and abstract surrealism, Ivy Rose uses bright pigments to communicate intense emotions. The bright colors also symbolize a sense of childlike play, without utilizing direct and obvious symbols. Art supplies for children tends to feature saturated pigments in basic colors without the breadth of color value. These illustrations also feature dark black outlines lines as an homage to coloring book pages (although, Ivy Rose never colored inside the lines as a child) and superhero comics. The idea is to illicit anecdotal thoughts in the viewers mind about their own childhood and their first introduction to being creative.

Surrealist Figure Studies
The female form is so vast and full of beauty. By exploring different version of the female form, I am able to safely process my body dysmorphia and find a deeper appreciation for different body types. By creating these body types surrealistically, one can imagine how their own body can be seen as artwork.

Understanding Identity
Exploring identity is about understanding the internal paradigm shifts you experience when you come into your power. These pieces ask the questions "what happens when we advocate for our needs in the face of adversity?"

Finding Beauty and Self Worth in Nature
Even when life feels out of control and chaotic, there is one thing that is always consistent: nature. The sun brings darkness every single day when she sets. Even though we have science to prove that the sun will in fact rise again, at our core, we only have hope that it will. Then, without fail, she rises again the next day and brings light. Even when we are faced with immense darkness, we can look to the sun as our mentor to remind us that the darkness is only temporary and that we ourselves, will be able to rise again and bring light.
