Evening Pictures

This is an ongoing series of marginally sequential images depicting the threshold time between day and night. The imagery is inspired by the pre-industrial concept of shutting-in, the time of day when shutters and doors were bolted against the oncoming darkness. The work relates to compartmentalized spaces and conceptual separations between realms: earth and sky, substance and atmosphere, surface and illusion, material and the mind.

Things

Small observational paintings of some things. I'm just beginning this project.

Elements

These images are mementos of remembered and imagined moments, mediated between illusion and abstraction. I use a limited palette so that the pictures are dampened, like worlds seen through a screen or veil. They are speculative places, reflecting -- but never beholden to -- the particularities of true portrayals.
