    In this series named Home Body, Michael Ivan Schwartz captures Scott posed inside the walls that will become his home. Layering multiple images in the same space represents both the long time the process of construction has taken as well as the complications needed to overcome its creation. Rendering the photos in a near colorless state emphasizes the unfinished atmosphere of the structure.

    Heavy objects, heavy topics, and heavy work are common in Scott’s life. The construction project was fraught with metaphorical lifting. He captured the dream home with an architect. He pushed the city for permits. He pulled on historical constraints. He compelled the community for support. He moved a power pole with Baltimore Gas and Electric. The house project was a heavy lift. It is a good thing he trains regularly in CrossFit and expands his stamina on a bike.

At age 10, Michael Ivan Schwartz captured his mother’s expression as she walked into their kitchen for her surprise 50th birthday party.
