About Ashley "Ash"

Hi, I’m Ash…

I’m a mom, education advocate, nonprofit leader, and artist. I grew up in a tiny town in Southern Arizona near the border of Mexico. After moving here almost 20 years ago, I’m happy to call Southwest Baltimore home. I’m a painter, photographer, and multi-media designer and I create under the name Little Box of Random.

Much of my recent painting work delves into my Afro-Indigenous identity and heritage, reclaiming ancestral foods, languages, rituals, and stories… more

The Eyes Have It - Mental Health Work

I am creating a collection of emotional eyes.

  • The Rage
    The Rage

On a rainy day at SOWEBO festival I painted this on the spot. It was a hot gloomy day with a storm coming. I had a great time at the event but I interacted with a lot of irritable people who were irked because of the heat and other artists that were irritated by the heat and vending challenges. I painted The Rage to put the negative vibes somewhere.

    Hanging By A Thread

I painted this in one sitting during a difficult time in my life. I needed to make a career change. I had gotten a degree in Software Development, newly diagnosed as neurodivergent, pandemic mom, and battling the education system. I was definitely burnt out and felt like I was failing in all areas. I went to my studio and just put my feelings out there. This painting was bought the same day by another person who was also going through a lot. <3

    My Mind's Eye

I have been creating these eyes in moments where I have big feelings. This painting started the whole collection. I know lives in the office of a mental health provider.
