Divinagracia uses a balikbayan box to create a traditional Bahay Kubo, a nipa house that is indigenous to the Philippines. The balikbayan box is a cardboard box full of foreign goods and gifts sent by OFWs (Overseas Filipino Workers) back to the Philippines for their family and loved ones at home. The balikbayan box symbolizes the spirit of bayanihan or communal unity in Filipino culture. Through “Saan Ka Man Naroroon, Carry Me Across the Sea,” Divinagracia investigates Philippine culture and the ways it shifts forms through the diaspora. A home built on the foundation of community.

Pandarayuhan
Pandarayuhan (2024)
Pandarayuhan is a profoundly personal art project by Anna Divinagracia that tells the story of her immigration journey from the Philippines to Baltimore City. Through a powerful collection of photographs, installations, and collage work, Divinagracia reflects on the emotional and generational complexities of the Filipino immigrant experience. The project explores themes of assimilation, marginalization, and displacement while honoring her family’s personal history of exodus for better opportunities.
The project's artworks incorporate materials collected from Divinagracia's immigration documents, transformed into symbolic representations of key stages in her journey. Each piece reflects a different aspect of her experience, conveying the emotional depth and complexity of her story. Through her art, Divinagracia encourages viewers to reflect on their own understanding of the universal experience of displacement, longing, and belonging, while highlighting the resilience and strength of immigrants who share this journey.
"Pandarayuhan" serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges and triumphs of the immigrant experience, inviting viewers to look within their own privileges as citizens or residents of a powerful and dominant country that is full of resources and opportunities. Through this project, Divinagracia shares her personal story and celebrates the strength and courage of all immigrants who seek a better life for themselves and their families.

Jezebel
Jezebel (2021)
Jezebel is a photo series that explores women within the lens of society. It is a study of gender constructs and the countless responsibilities that women are born into and ultimately grow into. It aims to shed light onto the unfair expectations assigned to women based on gender while celebrating the innate or acquired traits that women have. This series is in honor of women and the countless ways that we uplift and improve society as a whole.
Jezebel is inspired by the women in my life who empower and inspire me daily. I come from generations of powerful matriarchs who have paved ways and opened doors that enabled me to have the opportunities that I have today. This project is an ode to the women who love, support, and motivate me.
