Monument III (Obelisk) - From the Kelimeler Kıyafetsiz (:Words Naked/Are Not Enough)

The 2018 iterations of Kelimeler Kıyafetsiz (:Words Naked/Are Not Enough), Monument III , IV and V take the form of obelisks comparable to the one of Pharaoh Thutmose III transported to and re-erected in the Hippodrome of Constantinople. From the Washington Monument in D.C. to the Trajan's Column in Rome, phallic monuments have been built and displaced throughout history as markers of power/conquest.

PERMANENT SEPARATION ANXIETY

When I drop my children off at daycare or school I experience a minor amount of anxiety. I don’t like to admit it, but I do—and we have excellent childcare.

I can get worried when I can’t get in touch with my wife when she is out with the kids, because my head will go to the worst possible nightmare scenario given even a brief period of uncertainty as to the whereabouts of my family.

Living Goddess

Watercolor painted stone mounted on finished walnut, 10.5"x13"

Inspired by museum exhibits. I created an aged-looking sarcophagus mask and paired with a framed description, along with a gold tag detailing the queen's reign and a picture of the queen, herself.  It reminds me of a piece that could be found in an excavation of Egyptian royal tombs.

Artist Statement

Unseen

"Unseen" began as a reflection on the amount of artwork that is produced but never seen.
How many people actually "see" artwork? Most people that "see" artwork actually haven’t. They have seen pixels. Fewer people have actually seen my artwork in person than have experienced it in the form of curated photos posted via the internet on screens no bigger than their fists.
