My Summary
In the last decade or so I’ve been discovering my creative and artistic abilities that I wasn’t even sure that I had, that is, until I tried. I’ve been a Cameraman and Producer for over two decades concentrating on documentaries, magazine shows, lifestyle, how-to programs and corporate productions.

However, over the last decade or so I’ve decided to turn my attention to what got me interested in this industry in the first place - acting. Since then I’ve been working very hard to make acting my full time occupation. I’ve been acting professionally for nearly 10 years, after careers in radio announcing and television production. Recently, I’ve picked up some new creative pursuits - screenwriting and abstract painting.

My History
I never really thought about it but apparently I’ve been a performer all my life. I started learning and performing magic at around 6 years old. I first performed for my parents then for the local neighborhood kids. When I was eight, I won first place in my elementary school’s talent show with my magic act, "Warren The Wizard". Then I started performing at birthday parties for younger kids, even getting paid for my performances.

When I was around seven years old I told my dad I wanted to be an Actor and he said “Well, you have to move to Hollywood for that.” Little did either of us know the opportunities available in community theatre, student films and local commercials right in our area outside of Washington, DC.

In middle school I had the opportunity to get involved in school plays and I took advantage of that as much as possible. I loved every minute of it and I continued acting throughout middle school and high school. I was also a member of a youth improvisational theatre troupe that performed at schools and civic groups to teach kids about the dangers of drinking, drug use and physical/sexual abuse. After high school, my acting endeavors had to be placed on hold in order to concentrate on my broadcasting career, first in radio and later in television production.

In radio, I worked as an On-Air Talent and News Anchor at radio stations in Maryland and Pennsylvania. In television, I currently work in the capacity of Cameraman, Soundman and Producer. I always wanted to continue acting and I assumed I would pick it up again at some point but my production career had to take precedence.

Then in 2001, I happened across a table for the Fells Point Corner Theatre at the Fells Point Festival. They encouraged me to audition for the upcoming Christmas play and I booked a role in it. I finally started acting again, albeit part time while I was attending to my main duties behind the camera.

Better Late Than Never
When “The Wire” began production I told myself “One day I’m going to get a headshot and send it to those people who cast for “The Wire”. But I didn’t. And then in 2006 when HBO announced the show would be renewed for one final season I finally said “I can’t put this off any longer. It’s now or never.” and my acting career began in earnest.

2006 To Present
Acting is something I feel I was born to do and I’m catching up on all the years I placed acting on the back burner. I still work on the production side of the business in order to help make ends meet but I’m working very hard at being a full time, working, successful Actor.

I’ve had principal roles on several national television programs, national and local commercials, independent films, on local stages and in print advertising campaigns.

One thing I never forget is that acting is a business. One of the best pieces of advice I received is that “This is a business first and a creative outlet second.” While I have several Agents that I work with, I also work very hard at promoting and marketing myself and my efforts, learning new and established techniques, writing contracts for jobs I book myself, invoicing, accounting, website creation and maintenance, demo reel creation and updating and so much more.

Expanding My Horizons:
Many times I’ve had ideas for a film and said to myself “someone would write that”. One day, after hearing myself say that for the umpteenth time, I decided to do something about that. I have now written three films: one drama and two dark comedies. “Car Trouble”. “The Death Dealer” and “Redemption Song”, the latter about healing and reconciliation in the aftermath of the 2015 Baltimore riots. “Redemption Song” won First Place at the Baltimore Screenwriters Competition at the Maryland Film Festival in 2017 and “Car Trouble” won Third Place at the Baltimore Screenwriters Competition in 2018.

I’ve also taken an appreciation for and interest in abstract painting. After a couple of years thinking about getting involved I finally realized I have to dive in and do it. I have created nine abstract paintings in acrylic and oil on acrylic.

The Future:
What does the future hold for me artistically? It’s hard to say but I like the direction I’m going. I’m very proud that I have discovered other creative outlets and expressions such as screenwriting and abstract painting. I’m learning new things about myself and my abilities all the time.

While I’m working very hard to audition for and book guest starring and principal roles on network television shows and major motion pictures I’d like to write and produce films as well.

I’m proud of the success I’ve achieved so far but I’m focusing on moving up the ladder. While I am ambitious and goal oriented, I’m NOT acting for fame, fortune and red carpets. I simply want to be a continuously working Actor, Writer and Producer (and perhaps abstract painter) making a living doing what I love.
