Ursula's profile
Ursula Cain-Jordan is a retired social worker, who is doing something she always wanted to do, create art. Ursula learned to draw and paint while preparing for retirement in, the continuing education fine arts program at MICA. Ursula has also taken classes and workshops in various venues under the instruction of established artists.
Ursula has participated in many exhibitions In Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. She has won awards and been featured in print media and in pop-up art on MPT. Her work has evolved to mixed media collage. Her work involves a layering of various papers and/or acrylic paint. Then, a composition is painted on top of the layers. The result is a mix of colors and textures that add an abstract quality to the finished work. Themes may include social struggles, politics and/or culture. There is always some movement in Ursula's work influenced by the call and response and layering format of African-American gospel music.
Ursula has been greatly influenced by three artist: the densely layered complex collages of Romare Bearden, by Louis Delsarte and by Phoebe Beasley.
Ursula enjoys developing and sharing her art. It is her heart's work.
