Ursula V. Battle is a native of Baltimore and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Coppin State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in English and a Minor in Journalism. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Baltimore, where she majored in Publication Design.
She is also a graduate of the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland and Walbrook High School. The author is a Staff Writer for The Baltimore Times Newspaper and a former reporter for the Baltimore AFRO-American Newspaper.
She is the owner and operator of Battle Stage Plays based in Baltimore, MD, and presents her original stage play productions through the company. The company offers affordable entertainment for the entire family. The goals of the dynamic productions are to Uplift, Inspire, Educate, and Encourage. Attendees of all ages, nationalities, and walks of life, enjoy the timely material, hilarious slice-of-life comedy, riveting drama, life-changing spiritual messages, and inspirational singing. Her productions include Serenity House: From Addiction to Deliverance (currently on tour), DisChord in The Choir: Pitch Please!, My Big Phat Ghetto FABULE$$ Wedding, and The Teachers’ Lounge. The shows have consistently drawn sell-out audiences, garnered her a large following, and offer affordable, family-oriented entertainment to the community. She also authored a novel, Serenity House: From Addiction to Deliverance based on the stage play. Her newest production, A Homegoing Service for a Man Named Jesus will debut April 2023 at Huber Community Life Center.
Battle Stage Plays has presented productions throughout Baltimore in several venues which include Coppin State University, Morgan State University, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), Martin’s West, New Life Fellowship Worship Center, Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Crown of Glory Ministries, The Waxter Center, The Normandy Room, ArtScape, the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC, the Downtown Cultural Arts Center, The Chesapeake Arts Center, the Randallstown Community Center, Huber Community Life Center, The Jewish Community Center (JCC), Restoration Temple Apostolic Center, and the Forest Park Sr. Center.
Battle has been featured in several newspapers and magazines, and interviewed on radio, internet broadcasts, and other media. She is the recipient of numerous journalistic and creative writing awards including her selection as a Patapsco River (MD) Chapter of the Links Women In the Arts 2021: “Valiant Women of Freedom” and a “Leah’s Book Club” Honoree. Other honors include the Maryland, DC Press Association and Society of Professional Journalist Award, The NAACP’s “Thurgood Marshall Community Leadership” Award, and induction into the Broadcasting Institute of Maryland’s Hall of Fame. Her favorite scripture is 2 Corinthians 5:7 “For we walk by faith, not by sight.
