Schaun's profile

Schaun Champion is a multidisciplinary visual artist, director of photography and instructor. Using both digital and analog visual tools, Schaun is encouraged by phenomena and the histories and myths that humans tell themselves through portraiture, fine art and cultural documentary/archival works. She creates honest yet cinematic imagery influenced by the threads of classic films, music, themes of nature, biodiversity and nostalgia while illustrating the drama within the familiar.

Champion’s work explores the interconnectedness of the environment, the eyes, and visual historical narratives. Her vignettes of quiet moments ask for deeper thought around the ‘memory’ of personal, collective or communal histories. Champion draws from our infectious competition to capture the human “stories” developed to cope with our understanding of the world around us. Acknowledging that living subjects aren’t always human but have been touched by their presence and asking “What does it mean to be IN nature?”. She seeks to understand how humans with no access to previous mythology or ideology might make sense of their situation or “home”.
