Sally's profile

In 1996, I made a life-changing decision to move to Baltimore to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). At the time, I knew no one in the city and had little idea of the challenges I would face. I was driven by a sense of adventure, eager to explore my creative potential. However, I quickly realized that the road ahead would be much harder than I had imagined.

My mental health struggles have been a constant presence in my life, and as I navigated the rigors of both academia and personal battles, I found that art became my refuge. In times of deep personal turmoil, I turned to my work to process emotions, calm my mind, and heal. Through multiple hospitalizations and difficult periods, my art was not just an outlet—it was a lifeline.

I earned my BFA from MICA in 2003, a milestone that was hard-won and marked by years of growth, both artistic and personal. Today, I understand that my art is not just for myself; it is a gift to others. My purpose is to share my creations and to pass on the joy, healing, and comfort that art has brought me. I believe that art has the power to transcend, to bring moments of happiness and relief to those who experience it. It is through sharing that I find meaning and fulfillment—knowing that my work may help someone else find a moment of peace or joy in their own life.

Art is not only my therapy; it is my way of connecting with the world, of offering something of value and love to those around me
