Rebecca 's profile

The works of Rebecca Waring reflect her love of the earth, even in its decay. Several years ago, she became fascinated with oxidized metals and learned to speed up this natural process using various substances applied to sheet copper. The results are an immersion into ‘seeing’ our earth and what is happening in the era of the Anthropocene, the ugly and the sublime. Her art encourages the viewer to really look, not turn away. With a combination of paint, metal, fiber, paper, plastic and wood, she creates a textural surface with depth and meaning. Keenly observant of her world, she remains committed to truth-telling in her art and finds beauty even in the darkness.

Her latest series, still in progress, is a reimagining of the myths of the Greek goddesses with an eye toward their relevance to women’s lives today.

Her work has been in many gallery shows throughout the DMV area and she has commissions across the United States. A brief sample of these is below:

Galerie Myrtis. American Flag exhibit. Baltimore, Maryland.
Circle Gallery. American Landscapes exhibit. Annapolis, Maryland.
Glenview Mansion Gallery. Rockville Art League exhibit (Winner of first place, third place and honorable mention awards). Rockville Maryland.
