Rosy's profile
Rosy Sunshine Galvan (she/her/ella) is a Queer, Dominican-American artist from the pre-gentrified, Lower East Side of Manhattan, currently residing in Baltimore. Sunshine’s vibrant paintings celebrate the quirks that come from survival. Purposeful designs and eye-catching, Caribbean-influenced palettes show that even in our most broken forms we can continue to radiate and show up as our authentic selves. The bright colors, sharp lines, and animated dots conjure joy and connection while compassionately representing the desire to mask mental illness and complex trauma. Sunshine's work is designed to lift the vibrational frequency of its viewers as an antidote to oppressive forces that dull our shine and keep us in a state of shame. Her paintings are purposefully textured for an interactive, sensory, and tactile experience, inviting the audience to break traditional barriers between subject and viewer. Rosy Sunshine is also a macro social worker who helps organizations operationalize equitable principles in programming, practices, and workplace dynamics. She uses the intersection of her creativity and social work practice to create change, believing our imaginations are critical tools for transforming harmful systems into centers for healing.
