Raenell's profile

I was born in Baltimore and lived in California and Virginia as a teen and young man.  I’ve always engaged in doodling, tagging, and putting found things together.  I worked for an independent record label and studio as an engineer and producer and then moved onto carpentry and contracting. During a transition in life, I started painting with scrap wood and other materials from the back of my truck. The uniformity in tiles and cabinetry I see in my daily work lend themselves to abstract and geometric art, which I counterpoint by juxtaposing with organic and sometimes chaotic splashes of color and texture. Through color, form, and texture, I try to evoke something – a connection, thought, or emotion within the serialized space I’m utilizing. I see my art as a merging of the practical and mundane with the abstract and spiritual.
