ROSLYN's profile
Roslyn Zinner has been a mosaic artist since 2002, and her work has been shown in solo and group shows in Maryland, Virginia, DC, and France. Her Heroes series includes vivid stained glass portraits of Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman, Jane Goodall, John Lewis, and others who inspire us in their fight for freedom. With history as a functional potter, Zinner chooses the medium of stained glass mosaic for its versatility, texture, and reflectiveness. Glass may be textured or smooth, shiny or dull, opaque or translucent, and can be cut into many possible shapes and sizes that make up the flow, or andamento, of the mosaic. These choices allow Zinner to create modern pieces with this ancient art form. She believes that nothing is more sacred than breathing life into broken pieces.
Roslyn Zinner loves children and loves the ocean. Her series, Joy in the Water, features children in movement in waterplay. Ms. Zinner's love of coral reefs is apparent in her many ocean related pieces. She is the creator of a yearly immersive art experience called the Coral Reef Encounter (coralreefencounter.org) in Columbia, Maryland. Over two days, one thousand children and adults learn to use a snorkel and float through the trail in the pool. They see hundreds of fabulous fabric floating fish and many types of coral made from colorful found objects. The event is free and open to the public with prior registration for a two hour time slot.
Ms. Zinner has been a licensed clinical social worker for fifty years. She currently maintains a private practice as a psychotherapist, and helps adult clients suffering from depression and anxiety navigate complex relationships and physical disabilities.
