Nguyên Khôi Nguyễn is an interdisciplinary artist and educator whose cartoons have been featured in The New Yorker and McSweeney’s. He is the author of the Ignatz-nominated comic series, The Gulf, vocalist/pianist of the jazz trio, Superior Cling, and co-creator of the multimedia cooking website, Mom’s Viet Kitchen. Nguyễn is currently the Assistant Teaching Professor of Digital Media at Loyola University Maryland. He is the recipient of the 2024 Baker Prize in Literary Arts, a Rubys Artist Grant, and an Independent Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council.
Nguyên was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and raised in Cape Coral, Florida. He studied visual art at The Cooper Union, earned a B.A. in music and integrated arts from Bard College, a master’s degree in jazz piano from the University of Maryland, and an MFA in Studio Art from Towson University. Nguyên lives in Baltimore, Maryland, with his wife and sons.
