i have been teaching myself to sketch and paint
since i can remember
and in 2007
upon the discovery of my mother's old spectra polaroid camera
i started teaching myself photography
instant films of all sorts being my main interest
so, i am an instant photographer
i started sharing my work online under the name L.E. Jovik in 2007
as i was fearful of my catholic father stumbling upon my polaroids
this fear no longer resides in me

i am beginning a class at MICA this january in welding
and i am excited to work in a new medium
get a fresh perspective on my creative process
there is something i am quite attracted to
with the creating with fire method
oh yes!

i am married

we live in the charles village neighborhood of baltimore
enjoying the city and all it has to offer
and getting more and more involved everyday
and trying to do so on a personal/artistic level too, for myself!

been reading some words from Stanley Kunitz

"As an artist, you are a representative human being—you have to believe that in order to give your life over to that effort to create something of value. You're not doing it only to satisfy your own impulses or needs; there is a social imperative. If you solve your problems and speak of them truly, you are a help to others, that's all. And it becomes a moral obligation." - Stanley Kunitz

i am feeling this need
to share on a wider scale
been sharing for years
in a smaller and more intimate way
and i love doing so
but do believe
it is not only about sharing about what you know
through your work
but sharing the whole process of getting there
sharing what you do not know
may never know
the struggles
and definitely the joy in the everyday
the beauty

"When you look back on a lifetime and think of what has been given to the world by your presence, your fugitive presence, inevitably you think of your art, whatever it may be, as the gift you have made to the world in acknowledgment of the gift you have been given, which us life itself. And I think the world tends to forget that this is the ultimate significance of the body of work each artist produces. That work is not an expression of the desire for praise or recognition, or prizes, but the deepest manifestation of your gratitude for the gift of life." - Stanley Kunitz

Stanley was 100 yrs old writing this
i am only 29
i cannot imagine the possibilities ahead of me
and my art work
if i am allowed to live so long and able
life is a gift indeed
and an adventure
yay! adventure!
