Myungsook's profile

Myung Sook Ryu Kim was born in Seoul,South Korea. In 1980, Myungsook, graduated  from Ewha Womens University Department of Fine Arts, choosing sculpture as her major and studying brush painting as her concentration. Then,  she came to America in 1982 and received her Master in Ceramic Sculpture from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 1984-85.  Since then her works have been shown in more than 80 exhibitions, mostly in the Washington DC area as well as galleries in Seoul. Myung served as President the Hanmee Artists Association and continues to be an active member.  Currently she is a resident artist of the Howard County Center for the Arts since 2011. 
As an artist, Myungsook conveys her own perception of art envisioned with such harmoniously juxtaposed philosophies of the East with the media techniques of the West.  Myungsook expains how one of the most important elements in East Asian art is the line. Thus, she incorporates her paintings with such aesthetic elements and tries to emphasize such calligraphic line. Myungsook demonstrates how such traditional lines will be able to  guide the viewers' eyes into her artistic universe.
